Best Outdoor Summer Camps in San Francisco 2026
Your kid has done the coding camp. They've done the screen-based art program and the indoor STEM workshop with the foam noodles. This summer, what if they came home sunburned and sandy and absolutely stoked about something they did on actual water?
San Francisco is sitting on one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and most kids spend their summers nowhere near it. At Dogpatch Paddle & Kayak, we're changing that. We run six summer camp San Francisco programs for kids ages 7 to 16, all built around the Bay, the waterfront, and the kind of outdoor adventure that kids actually talk about when school starts back up. No screens. No sitting. Just real skills, real water, and a community of kids who are genuinely having the summer of their lives. Sessions run June 1 through August 21, and spots fill up fast.
Why Outdoor Camp on the Bay Is Different
There's something that happens to a kid the first time they stand up on a paddleboard. Or the first time they realize they've just paddled themselves out into San Francisco Bay — on their own, under their own power — and the city is behind them and the water is all around them. That moment lands.
Outdoor water camp builds the kind of confidence that doesn't come from a certificate or a screen. Kids learn to read conditions, trust their bodies, work with instructors and peers, and push past the "I don't think I can do that" moment. The skills are real. The experience is real. And the kids who come once almost always come back for another session, because they found something they didn't know they were looking for.
The 2026 Camp Lineup: 6 Programs, Ages 7–16
We've built six programs so there's a fit for every age, every skill level, and every kind of adventure-seeking kid.
Park-to-Park Adventure Camp (Ages 7–14, $649/session) is our land-based program for younger campers and kids who want active outdoor time across the neighborhood before they hit the water. A full week of volleyball, pickleball, basketball, and bocce across Dogpatch and Potrero Hill's best parks, with a crew of instructors who make every game feel like the championship. Active, social, and genuinely fun — no experience in any of these sports required.
Beginner Paddle Board — Crane Cove (Ages 7–11, $799/session) is where the water adventure begins. Zero experience needed — just a willingness to get a little wet and try something new. Kids learn balance, basic paddle strokes, how to get back on after a fall, and how to move across the water safely and confidently. By the end of the week, they're paddling on their own. The look on their faces when that happens is why we do this.
Beginner Paddle Board — Mission Creek (Ages 7–11, $799/session) runs the same beginner curriculum at our second location near Oracle Park. Calm harbor water, a friendly dock, and the same incredible instructors — just a different (and beautiful) corner of the Bay. Great option if Mission Creek is closer to home or if the Crane Cove session is sold out.
Intermediate SUP or Kayak (Ages 9–14, $799/session) is for kids who've already been on the water and want to go deeper. Campers refine technique in both paddleboarding and kayaking, explore more of the Bay, and start developing real independence on the water. There's a strong social element here too — this age group bonds hard over a week on the Bay together.
Advanced SUP (Ages 11–16, $799/session) is for the goal-oriented kid who wants to push. This program covers racing form, efficient stroke technique, fitness, and endurance training. Campers work toward real performance goals and leave with a level of paddling ability that most adults never reach. Already paddled? Level up here.
Teen Explorer's Travel Camp (Ages 13–16, $999/session) is the one teens actually brag about. Smaller groups, bigger adventures — multi-location trips across Marin, the East Bay, Half Moon Bay, and the Peninsula. This isn't another summer of nothing. Campers explore the Bay Area's most stunning outdoor spots, build genuine friendships in a tight-knit group, and come back with stories. Real adventure, real independence, real summer.

Where We Paddle: Two Bay Locations
Crane Cove Park (701 Illinois St, SF 94107) is our home base — the full destination. Campers here get the full waterfront experience: a beautiful, protected cove, access to our sauna and facilities, and the warmth of an HQ that's been building community since 2020. It's right in the heart of Dogpatch, easy to get to, and stunning every single morning.
Mission Creek Boathouse (401 Berry St, SF 94158) is our second location, tucked in near Oracle Park. The water here is calm and protected, ideal for beginners who are finding their footing. There's something special about paddling in the shadow of a baseball stadium — kids love it, and parents dropping off on their way to work appreciate the location.
What a Week Looks Like
Camp days start with a check-in, gear up, and a quick safety briefing — our instructors cover everything, so no experience is ever assumed. From there, kids are on the water. Sessions are structured but relaxed, moving between skill-building, exploration, and the kind of unstructured play-on-the-water time that makes the day feel like an adventure rather than a class. Our instructors are warm, patient, and genuinely great with kids — not just technically skilled but the kind of people kids actually listen to and trust. Safety is always our first priority, and we've guided thousands of young paddlers safely across the Bay. Good vibes throughout.
Questions Parents Ask Most
Does my kid need any experience? For beginner programs, absolutely not. Zero experience, zero gear, zero worry. We take care of everything.
Is it safe? We've served around 1,000 campers since we started, and safety is built into everything we do. Our instructors are trained and experienced, we monitor conditions every day, and the water environments we use are appropriate for each age and skill level.
Are scholarships available? Yes. We believe every SF kid should have access to the Bay. Reach out to us at info@dogpatchpaddle.com to ask about financial assistance.
What about returning campers? Kids who've done a session before get priority placement and often move up to the next level. We love seeing the same faces come back summer after summer.
How to Register Before Spots Fill Up
Summer 2026 sessions run June 1 through August 21 — 12 weekly sessions across all six programs. Enrollment closes May 20, and the most popular sessions (especially Beginner SUP and Teen Explorer) typically fill well before that.
Head to dogpatchpaddle.campbrainregistration.com to see available sessions and lock in your spot. If you have questions about which program is right for your kid, email us at info@dogpatchpaddle.com and we'll help you figure it out.
Your kid will thank you. Probably by asking to come back.
