Nothing beats the thrill of witnessing, and potentially snagging, a splash homer in McCovey Cove during a Giants game. There’s always a party happening on the water, with a massive screen broadcasting the game and the roar of the crowd rocking the cove.

You launch from our Mission Creek Boathouse, not Crane Cove. It’s a calm, protected half mile to the cove. Book a launch time, get there fifteen minutes early for check-in and a briefing, then paddle out and watch the game from the water.

Prices are per boat, for the whole rental, not per hour. Two hours covers the paddle out and some of the game. Book three hours if you want room to explore the waterfront either side of it.

Mission Creek Boathouse, 401 Berry Street. This is our second site, not the Crane Cove shop, and the two are more than a mile apart. Mission Bay parking is limited and gets chaotic around event traffic, so come by transit if you can.

MuniThe N-Judah and T-Line, plus buses 15, 30, 45 and 55, all stop near Mission Creek Park.

CaltrainGet off at 4th & King and walk south to Mission Creek over the 4th Street Bridge.

RideshareAim for Mission Creek Park on Berry Street and walk in, from Berry or Channel between 4th and 5th.

StreetThere is no boathouse lot and no parking at Mission Creek Park. Street parking is limited and competitive on game days, so arrive early.

Good to know

Do I need experience?Some helps. These are stable sit-on-top kayaks, single or tandem, and you get an onshore briefing and route guidance, but the cove is open water with boat traffic and a crowd on it. Brand new? Take a lesson at Crane Cove first.

The paddle outA protected half mile down Mission Creek and out to the cove, ten to fifteen minutes at an easy pace. Flat, sheltered water the whole way.

How long you getTwo hours covers the paddle out and some of the game. Three hours is likely to cover the whole game, or leave you extra time to explore the waterfront either side of it. Most people settle into a spot in the cove and stay put.

What to bring and wearAthletic layers you don’t mind getting wet, secure sandals or water shoes, a hat, sunglasses and sun protection. Water, a phone tether or dry bag, a snack, and a glove if you fancy your chances. Evening games get cold on the water once the sun drops. Full detail on Preparing to Paddle.

Food and drinkLight snacks and non-glass drinks are fine. Please skip glass and anything that could blow away or end up in the water.

Can kids come?Yes, from 7 years old in a tandem with an adult, and we’ll help you pick the right setup. For a single kayak, from 10 with an adult renting alongside, or from 13 with an adult watching from shore.

Safety and conditionsYou get a route briefing, boundaries and on-water expectations before you launch, and we only run when conditions are appropriate. Life vests are required and worn the whole time. If it isn’t safe we’ll reschedule you or issue a credit.

ReservationsBook ahead. The boats are only at Mission Creek on game days, we cannot guarantee anything for walk-ins, and popular games sell out.
